What is a Dental Implant?
The main part of a dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically inserted into your jawbone, just like the root of a tooth. On top of the implant, there is an abutment that connects the implant to a prosthetic tooth. All of these components combined provide maximum stability, strength, and function.
What are Dentures?
A denture is a prosthetic made to look like a natural set of teeth and gums. The material used is ultra-high quality, making dentures quite durable. In most cases, a denture is held in place with a special sealant, but in some cases, it can be fixed inside your mouth with strategically placed dental implants.
How do Implant Dentures Work?
For patients who want the stability of implants plus the practicality of dentures, Implant Dentures are an ideal solution. Sometimes called snap-on dentures, Implant Dentures are held in place with dental implants for greater stability. Typically, patients need only 2 implants per arch to hold their dentures. However, for added stability, some patients prefer to have 4 implants placed. Implant dentures are not permanently fixed to your jaw by the implants and need to be removed at night and for regular cleaning.
